After his film Yamla Pagla Deewana turned out to be a runaway success at the Box-office, Samir Karnik had hoped for an easy life ahead. But, things got worse. Recently, he had a fallout with the Deols (except Bobby) and now the director has lost his office during a demolition-drive in MHADA.Samir Karnikôs(below) office building Earlier this week, BMC officials arrived with bulldozers and demolished hundreds of buildings including Samir Karnikôs office. Karnik explains, They came here with big bulldozers. They just ran the machines over a 100 society buildings! Can you imagine how many families have turned homeless in this monsoon?Ě
Karnik is now trying to rebuild a makeshift office on the demolished plot of land.A disappointed Karnik says, I had no clue about my office being on disputed land. I think it was a fight between the builders and the government and we were caught in the middle.ĚSo bad is the condition of the area around his building that it resembles a war zone. Itôs all rubble. I had seen something like this only in war movies before,Ě says Karnik.
Sadly, Samir has not received any concern calls from anyone in the film industry, not even the Deols. But the director has nothing to say against the Deols, I maintain theyôre my family. I consider myself Dharamjiôs third son. I donôt know if he thinks of me as my father.I confess that there has been no progress with the proposed sequel to Yamla Pagla Deewana. Iôve sent them messages saying that I am willing to do the sequel any time they want. But I havenôt received any reply.ĚIronically, Karnikôs next film is a comedy about a man who suddenly loses his home and job.
